About FocusOn

FocusOn is an annual project organized by The Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm, Sweden, with the purpose of raising the awareness of students, of various technical fields, as well as increase their interest in the development of foreign markets. Attention is this year directed to Kenya and its progress as one of Africa's leading nations in trade and development. We invite you to come along!

Project description

The aim of this year's FocusOn is to define the needs that Kenya require in order to expand and develop its business sectors and strengthen its financial position in East Africa. FocusOn intend to link these needs to a Swedish industrial perspective in order to identify opportunities for Swedish companies in the country. Further, the project aims to establish contacts between engineering students and partner companies.

The objective of the project is to embody the results and conclusions of our studies in a project book distributed to partners of the project, and students at KTH to raise awareness about the market potential which exists in Kenya.

During the course of the project, a range of activities will take place to fulfill the above mentioned objectives, for example:

About Kenya

In a short period of time, Kenya has evolved from poverty and political instability to become an inspiration amongst other East African countries in terms of financial growth and skilled labor. Agriculture has long formed the backbone of the economy and is still today a valuable source of revenue for the country. However, other sectors such as telecommunication, energy, environmental technology, and tourism are increasingly becoming part of the commercial as well as industrial life and constitute important sources for Kenya's future development.

With one of the regions most well-functioning infrastructures, suitable for international export and import, Kenya is an important driving force for further financial stability and social development in East Africa. As a result, several Swedish companies have established centers of operation and production in the country to take part in this exciting and interesting development which may form the basis for further expansion in the area.

The East African market includes 250 million people and offers tremendous opportunities for Swedish companies.
